Start a Daycare Business

Daycare Advertising Ideas and Tips

The advertising of your daycare center should make up an important part of your overall business marketing mix. Let's take a closer look at the importance of daycare business advertising and some of the things that you should take into account when you start putting advertising campaigns together.

Start Early

Starting an advertising campaign on your daycare's opening day is really too late. Campaigns should be started at least several months prior to your opening date. Let people know about the coming arrival of your business by running some campaigns that build up interest and curiosity.

Targeted Advertising

If your advertising is to be effective then it should be as highly targeted as possible. There is no point having people view your advertising if they live out of your area or if they don't even have children to begin with. People usually choose a daycare that is located close to their home so you are best if all of your campaigns are local and targeted at nearby families. Options like TV or radio usually have audiences spread over a large area and are therefore usually not cost effective for daycare businesses.

You need to understand your target audience well before you can design advertising campaigns that will appeal to them. Your target market will affect not only the advertising methods that you use but also the design, style and ad copy that you use. Market research should be a big part of your marketing plan if you really want to get inside the minds of your customers.

Daycare Advertising Budgets

Allow for advertising expenses in your startup budget as well as on a monthly basis. Daycare centers usually can't afford to put aside a lot for advertising so you have to make each dollar count. Try out some of the more affordable options first and if they don't work out you can then look at spending a little more.

Your advertising budget will also determine if you are able to hire professional graphic designers and copywriters to create advertising for you. Daycare owners often design their own advertisements by using templates that they find online. Results should be much more effective though if all your advertising is done professionally. Remember that you have to spend money to make money.

Inspiration From Other Daycare Centers

With so many advertising options available it can sometimes be confusing to know where to start. You obviously will not have the budget to try everything right away.

Take a look at how some of your more successful competitors are advertising their daycare centers. If they are running the same ads over a long period of time it is likely that they are working well in the local market so you might look at using the same methods. Don't copy their ideas too closely as originality will always win in the end. However you can study their campaigns carefully and try to look for aspects that are worth imitating.

Also look at some of the methods that companies in other industries in your area are using and see if you can adapt them to promote your daycare.

Sell Benefits

When it comes to designing daycare advertising and writing ad copy remember that you need to point out the benefits that customers get from using your service. Customers don't care about you as such but rather they care about themselves. They essentially want to know what you can do for them and how you can make their lives better. They also want to know what makes your daycare different from all of the others out there.

Hit Them Again and Again

With consumers being bombarded with so many advertising messages these days it may take a while for your advertisement to be noticed. For this reason you should not just run an advertisement once and then give up but rather run a campaign of at least six or eight ads.

Testing and Tracking

Always test methods against each other so that you can find out which are cost effective and which ones show poor results. Have a policy of asking new clients how they found out about your daycare service and try to track each new lead back to the advertisement that generated it. Alternatively you can use different phone numbers for different advertisements or coupons with codes that record each specific promotion. Then you can dump the methods that are not working and expand on the methods that are.

Whether you are just starting out in the business or you are looking to improve your existing daycare center you must understand how advertising works. Put time into this area and set up campaigns that are effective in communicating your message to your target market. If you do then you should be well rewarded for your efforts.
